Since yours is very unlikely to be revived, it probably makes little difference.

I will directly suspect the fuel distributor.

I'm sure that no one could rebuild it even Bosch themselves. (This is only my personal opinion)

Sure, you can open it up. But if it's clogged, it's probably also corroded inside and will require at least one new part; parts are not available.

Then, once you have your unobtainable parts, you won't be able to put the thing back together without it having a massive leak. I have no idea how Bosch gets these things tight from the factory. There are no seals inside. It seems to be some sort of black art.

I never dared to open a fuel distributor, because I knew it is imposssible to get the gaskets (if any).
Have you experienced to open a FD? and that there is no gasket between the two halves of the FD?

In that case it could be just leak tightness by "metal on metal" which is feasible by design.

Check the boneyards or even look for an ugly, low priced 560. Those fuel distributors are a little over $2000 last I checked.

Check with Fastlane Phil, I think the 560's and 420SEL use the same distributor.

Remans are out there, I use/distribute CIS Flowtechs with Very good results in the last 4 years. Stay away from the Python rebuilds..they are utter crap.

I've taken FD's apart (you can see pics on my site) but w/o the necessary parts you can't rebuild them.. Worst part is, Bosch no longer sells the parts.. The people rebuilding them manufacture their own seals/bellows etc..

That's good to know about the Python units. I'm going to just hang onto all the extra FDs I have then.

I have two spare Euro spec ones, those are damned hard to locate around here!
