transmission fluid draining - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Ive been trying to get start draining my transmissio but the transmission pan drain plug is very stubborn. Wd-40 didnt even do the trick so now I'm out of ideas.

I was thinking maybe it would be easier if the car was warm but I don't feel comfortable starting the car while its on jack stands and I dont feel motivated enough to bring the car down, start it up and raise it up again. Anybody know what to do?

Have you tapped it from the bottom and the sides with a hammer?

How about a cheater bar?

I tried a makeshift cheater bar and advanced it a little bit but obviously not enough. ill try tapping it now.

no luck, i know Ill make a mess if I just take the pan off without draining it, but does anybody know how big a mess?

From changing the fluid on cars with no drain plug, somewhat of one. Use a large steel tray and a drain pan. Try to get most of the fluid in the drain pan.

I'm about to drain my transmission, after having just finished changing the final drive fluid. I will probably just hit the drain plug with the air wrench, as I did for the final drive plugs.

How big?... I think about half maybe 60% max, of capacity, the other half comes out the turque converter... well, depending on what car.

The transmission pan will slosh fluid all over. It's possible to make it leak mostly from one corner (where your drain pan sits), but you won't get it all. I did use a steel tray, and the floor didn't suffer. I'd say that I lost over a half-quart into the steel tray. A half-quart on the floor is not pretty.

it actually wanst too messy, used one of those aluminum trays that people use fr catering food and opened up the two front most bolts, got most of it to spill out front and land rigt in the pan...almost no mess!

so...does anyone know where to dispose of this fluid? is it down the sink? probably not.

Take it to an auto parts store or a quick lube place. They will be happy to dispose of it for you (and they get paid for it).

ATF is essentially motor oil. Just recycle it anywhere that takes motor oil.

Please don't dump it down the sink... that's grossly irresponsible.
