w124 quirk fixes
I was having problems in a couple of areas... searches didn't necessarily work.. so i had a bit of time to mess around
1. My blower fan was working intermittently. No fuse issue... no button issue Problem solved. If it doesn't come on a just have to jiggle the ignitiion key slightly. 2. Aux fan not working. Car heats to 110, A/C doesn't engage Fuse blown. Replaced fuse. The fan tries to engage, fuse blows. Problem solved. Fan stuck or slighlty frozen. Used screwdriver to free it and spin. Will spray some penetrant. I probably got lucky on these two... but it's nice to pass on any information when you can. This was on the 260e. |
Thanks for the tips!

lee,the first means that the electrical part of ignition switch,at the back of the steering lock is going bad.the accessory connection in that switch is weak and the spring is not holding it in when you let the key go after starting the engine.you will probably find that if you turn it back towards off just a little the a/c will start along with the blower. as for the aux fan take it out and take it apart and if the brushes have not worn too big of a groove and are still viable you may be able to save it.

Can you fix the ignition switch by getting a new spring... or do you have to get an entire ignition switch and new key? i am fine jiggling it now....but i really don't want this thing to give out on me on a hot August day. |
