is there a way of putting the convertible top down manully in a 1991 300 sl ? if there is how is it done , is there a DIY for it ?? thank you

Yes, There are tools in tool kit, check owners manual. Pretty easy

Peter , thanks for the reply ............ in the manual it shows how to put up the convertible top , which does seem easy , it doesn't show how to put it down , i tired to do everything backwards , I can unlock the front locks on the right and left of the windsheild , I can unlock the back latch that goes up , but I can't put it up bacause I can't get the back of the top to unlock , thats probably the first thing that needs to be unlocked when putting the top down , any ideas on how I can get to that ??

Hello, There are releases in the trunk on the right and left. Open the rear first, lift top forward. On each side, slide special tool in to release lid. Then slide tool in front windshield frame to release front bow.
