Good Sources for Re-man Trans ?

Hi all,

I have a '95 E320 w about 83K miles and last week the transmission 'went', no reverse or 4th/overdrive. Later this week my local (good) MB shop will have a look, but the trans has to come out, probable rebuild.

I don't yet know if a shipped reman will be cheaper, a used one makes me a little nervous as you don't know for sure what you get. I trust the guys at my shop but don't expect it to be cheap

I was referred to Sun Valley in California by someone on this site (sorry - forgot name-thanks) and found Mercedeswerks.com on e-bay. If I go this route preference is in the west to reduce shipping costs.

Thanks for any help offered.

I bought one for my ML from phoenixhardparts.com. They sold me the correct 722.6 with converter for around 2200 delivered with 4 year warrantee. The planetary went to hell, so that cost me an extra 750.

The I totalled the truck.

Do you have an indie with access to the MB Canada Rebuilding Center? My tech charges $3000 installed for a 722.6, and that is for a rebuilt unit from MB. He says they have the best warranty/build for a reman trans.

Typically, new MB transmissions are fairly pricey and the "factory" (not done at the factory per se) rebuilt ones are 99% as good and 1/2 to 2/3 the price.

If you have no luck locally, you could call my tech and ask him about buying a unit and having shipped to BC. I have no idea of what the four speed boxes cost, or shipping, or core, etc.

PM me for his number if you like...

I also was referred to Sun Valley. I got a rebuilt trans for my '93 400E. it was $1200 plus shipping. It includes a 1 year warranty and also a torque converter. I am very happy with it!:)

My first rebuild from Sun Valley didn't shift quite right, they were great to deal with and shipped me another with no questions asked free of charge. I did all the work myself so all it cost me was time to do the swap again (8pm -3am solo on a work night). The 2nd one has been absolutly great. I would still recommend them.

Hello,

I can recommned Peter Schmid in Burlingame California.

http://www.peterschmid.com

They will fix your old one or do a swap, two year no mileage warranty!

I have been to the location myself and had my 1989/300ce done there. Same problem as yours, very common.
