My 2001 E320 has had the CEL on for approximately six months, and I have yet to notice any driveability problems. When I scanned for codes, the P0173, etc. codes appeared indicating a bad mass air flow meter. Are there any consequences from continued driving with this issue? I will probably replace the sensor in about 2K miles when the oil is changed (synthetic M1 5W40 every 5K).

Why would you take a chance, when you're going to replace it anyway?

I drove with a bad MAF on my ML for several months, and it gave me occasional starting and poor acceleration issues...ignoring it eventually destroying the fuel pump...while out of town on a holiday weekend. Not including towing 85 miles to the nearest MB dealership, replacing the pump and MAF added $1100 to vacation expenses...
