94 C280 need coolant flush help
4 Attachment(s)
Hi All,
I tried locating the radiator drain cock from underneath and can't find it as show on the pictures (R=passenger and L=driver side). Am I looking at the right place? On the third picture, is this the coolant drain plug (item B) from the engine on the passenger side (size 19mm)? On the fourth picture, is this the thermostat housing (item C)? Thanks ahead for the help as I'm in desperate need of new coolant... |
In the picture labled 'L', there is a red nob on the left with a flathead screwdriver slot in the bottom, turning it should release fluid from the rad.
You will also need to open the drain on the passenger side of the engine block under the exuast manifold if you wish to get out all of the fluid. (edit: what you have labled 'B' looks about right [but cleaner than mine]) There is a bolt along the sensor rail on top of the head (on an M103 not sure about M104) that will allow air into the back side of the system and allow it to drain faster/more completely. (like opening a can with only one punch hole at the top it wont drain well from the block if you don't open that bolt.) 'C' is the thermostat housing. Also open the expansion tank. |
Wouldn't hurt to put some anti-seize compound on the treads of the block drain fitting after wire brushing it. Don't over-tighten it as well. I can look up the torque if you wish.

yes please....
can you provide the torque spec for that and the 3 bolts for the thermostat housing as well please...
thanks... |
You can remove or loosen the lower hose to drain the radiator.
|
Block drain plug: 30 NM or 22 lb.ft.
Thermostat housing cover: 9 NM or 6.6 lb.ft. If you remove the thermostat housing cover, you will need to replace the "O" ring. |
thanks....
thank you...
