When I change the oil on my 83 300D the oil is always black on the dipstick. Is there a safe easy way to remove all the used oil from the engine? I like to see the oil getting dirty slowly on the dipstick. Thanks for your input.

I have a ford 7.3 liter diesel. When I change the oil, the oil on the dipstick stays clean up to 2500 miles.

Same for my MB diesels. Black always.
The F250 diesel truck turns black around the block as well. |
Cool, hopefully our Ford F250 7.3L with Navstar engine stays good for that long.
The car was made for towing, it drives soo slow. Its one of my parents cars so I rarely drive it. Very powerful though, uses 10 quarts or so of oil, geez.... |
The soot that blackens the oil is a normal byproduct of diesel combustion...there is no getting away from it. Just keep current with oil/filter changes every 3k miles if using dino oil, some say longer if using synthetic, and all will be fine.
