A contributor to this site has an AMG cluster waiting to be fitted to his C250 TD. His name is MBenz. His website is at http://www.mbenz.nl
I think he has details and photos on that website. I seem to remember that the only problem he faced was that the rev counter and speedo were differently calibrated on his diesel-engined car. This may not be a problem for your C280. The only other problem I would see is that the instrument cluster does all kinds of mysterious work other than tell you how fast you're going. This may not work properly with the AMG version. You will certainly be able to fit the instrument cluster with the ivory-coloured dials from the European "Sport" cars. (There are four lines in Europe, Classic, Esprit, Elegance and Sport -- naff, eh?) I think these are more attractive than the mid-grey AMG dials. [Edited by jjrodger on 05-29-2001 at 03:27 AM] |
It depends on the original cluster you have in your 1995 C280. The MB C class clusters were changed in 1995 and if you have an old style C280 cluster and new style C36 cluster, you can forget about it. (Although I am convinced that I will succeed one day…)
However, if you have a new style C280 cluster (adjustment pins at the totally left and right instead of halfway the cluster), it becomes fairly easy and even possible. I have tried my 1996 C36 AMG cluster in a 1996 C220D(iesel) and was surprised by the fact that all gauges and check lights were behaving perfectly. It is no problem that the speed gauge has a different reading; the needle was pointing at the right speed (but would never reach the right corner anymore). The rev gauge needs a different reading to be stuck to the base plate (these reading gauges are just stickers that can be exchanged after the needle is removed)... Now tell me; does your C280 have an old or new style cluster? (you are already the third person that asks about this on the different forums...what's up with those clusters?) jjrodger; you have read my website very well!, thanks. greetingz, |
