the srs light on my 95 c220 came on when i first turn on the engine and last about 3min after driving. i took my car to the mechanic and he ran an diagnostic test and told me the driver's seat belt buckle is defective. i want to change it myself but i forgot to ask him exactly what part is defective. any thoughts? or there is only one part-the whole buckle? thanks!!

Yes, only one part. The switch that failed is in the belt latch mechanism. The switch is open/closed but there is a resistance across the open switch that the control unit looks for to be assured that the circuit is whole.
The fault code should specify the exact switch by number.

Hmm, I just replaced my whole driver's side seat belt buckle when this occurred a few weeks ago. I had to take it in to have the code reset though.
It's not a very hard job, only took me about 20 minutes or so. The only difficult part is getting your hands in certain places, it's tight down there. But definitly a DIY.

I think it was only about $74 or so. At first I payed $110, and walked out the door realizing it was the wrong one, so I went back and the other one was a bit cheaper. He told me that they were changed 1/2 way through MY 95, don't know whether that's true or not (making up for his error), but just be sure you get the right one.

Can you just pull the negative terminal off the battery for 30mins to reset the srs light?

Steve,
That worked for my Check Engine light, it did clear the CE light and code. But not with the SRS light. I had it unplugged all night! Still the stupid light came on. So you have to take it in. My friend Justin with a 1999 E430: I unplugged his seatbelt and his SRS light went on, I then plugged it back in and it automatically sensed that it was OK and turned back off! THey must have updated the OBDII to correct that problem by 1999.
