Subframe (differential) mounts for 99 E320
 

Has anyone replace the rear subframe (differential) mounts on their W210? I removed the bolts, dropped the differential (and exhaust system) but could not get them out. I tried using a cup (actually a 3" hole saw) with a 7" X 3/8" all thread through it and a 2.5" diawasher (stacked with other washers to get to the 3/8 " ID for the all thread). I put nuts on each side and started cranking....the mounts would NOT budge! I noticed a tool offered on the internet for this job for $115. If I knew it would work flawlessly I may consider getting one (as bad as I hate to spend that much on a tool I will use only one time).

I just did that job on my 93 300D. It is almost impossible to pull the doughnuts out of the holes without the proper tools.

I also tried the washer method and only realised later that I had made the hole larger.

Where r u located ? Let me know and we can see on how I can loan a tool to u that works.

I found this on the 190e forum (www.190revolution.net) - and I know the subframe mounts are quite similar on the 201/124. I'm not sure how they look on the 210 though:

Thanks for the replies. The bushings I am trying to replace are the ones that connect the differential to the rear subframe. Thanks also deiselbeagle for the offer for the tool loaner.
I have now dropped the rear end of my car three times trying to remove the bushings using home made tools (one variety was used and defined by another forum member) with no success. I finally broke down and bought the tool from Phil this morning (before reading the offer from deiselbeagle) :mad: . At any rate, I'll keep you posted on the use of the new tool...it certainly looks like it should do the trick.

At what mileage are you replacing the subframe mounts? I am hoping that doesn't need done yet on my 99. I just did it last year on my 87 (19 years) and that seemed a good long life for those mounts. But on a 99???

I have about 95K on it. The bushings look ok, but seems like the durometer on the rubber has decreased and allows too much slop. Did you have a hard time getting the bushings out of your 87?

I had the bushings changed professionally. My ind garage is quite experienced and did a great job. I had them replace all of the rubber and bushings, and shocks and springs in the rear end at the same time. That plus the front rebuild, and it's now a new car.

I've been thinking that the 210 with 116k miles, makes too much noise when passing over expansion joints on cement roads. The diff mounts might be part of it.
