C220 auto transmission shutdown
My 1996 C220 Mercedes just decided to stall. The car can start but shifting to Drive or Reverse produces no movement. This shutdown happened without any prior warning. I was driving, stop and switch off the car to answer a cellfone call but when I restarted the car it just refused to move. The gearbox oil level was low when I checked so I topped it up, but still the car won't move. I can shift the gear lever to any position but still no response from the car.
Anybody out there with any suggestions? |
Well, lets start with the important..
How many miles are on the car?
It sounds like your tranny is toast. |
I understand some of these MB trannies have what's called a B2 piston
that's prone to failure. When that happens it could shut down the tranny. If that's what it is may not need a new tranny. I know the topic's been covered on this mb but the search function doesn't recognize B2. Do a Yahoo/Google search under B2 piston and you'll find plenty of info. |
