I have a 1995 S600 four door w/70k miles. I get this noise from the rear as if something is loose in the rear, sounds like something in the suspension is lose or broken. I hear it over potholes or even when the road is uneven. You could hear it in the car but not from the outside. Comes from both wheels in the rear.

Thx

Could very well be a rear shock is blown. I assume you have the load-leveling feature? If those shocks fail, often the only symptom is as you describe. Hope I'm wrong!
