Spark plugs? fluid flush? let me know. |
Email me your fax number and I'll fax you a copy. steveb@atlantic.net Include your original question as I get a lot of email.

Got it! thanks. Some questions:
1) why do the spark plugs on this car need to be changed so often? shouldn't platinum plugs last longer than 30K miles? do they not use platinum? can I switch to some high quality plugs or do you have to stay stock with this engine. I know some engines are pickier than others. 2) how much should this service approximately cost assuming no extra repairs are done? thanks |
At a dealership, they can run from $300 to $400.
No, you're not supposed to put platinum plugs in a Mercedes. If you do a search, you will find out why. Something about particles breaking off or something. Many people have tried them and they have had all kinds of problems. Mercedes also specifically forbids the use of platinum plugs. |
I grew up in an era where 10k on plugs was good. Cleaning up the way engines burn have increased the lives of all the components. I still like to look at the plugs in a motor every 30k at least just to verify whats going on. Oil consumption/carbon, mixture history, alot can be read.
Your motor does 30k just fine on Bosch F8DC4; a rather inexpensive plug. Gotta be $2 or less at the discount store. |
