The positive cable for my car {1976 280c} cost over 200 hundred dollars this is crazy. Can i replace just the positive cable itself unwwrap the tape!This is my battery cable that i am talking about. Gary

Don't know the cable you are talking about, but if you work on it, please be careful. Remove any rings and jewelry, it can ground out and severely burn you. A friend almost lost his ring finger to such a burn. Always disconnect the negative cable first, since if a wrench hits ground, there is zero electrical potential. Once the negative is off, if you ground out while removing the positive, it has no path to ground.

Another repair...
I'd not bother removing the old cable but buy a new cable as from a welding supply house or from someone as Summit Racing that has rear battery mount kits. Run the cable under the car with nylon tie-wraps to hold it safely in place. There are good terminal ends available that can be swedged on to the cable to insure no voltage loss.

how long is that cable? seens like any auto electricial shop could make you up a perfect replacement for a fraction of the cost......
