93 300E Driver's window problem

When I press the console switch to power down the drivers window I hear a stuttering sound (click, click, click) like a gear is slipping and the window does not want to go down from the fully closed position unless I put my hand on the glass and "help" it. One I do that it goes down ok with no noise. Going up isnt a problemn except the motor makes a loud "clack" when the glass is at the top of the track and fully into the channel at the top.

Can anyone detail the door panel removal procedure and then direct me to what to look for inside on the regulator assembly?

I thiught it might me the small white plastic clips but then again it might be the motor start/stop point.

Ideas? Input?

TIA

window problem

I just had the window regulator in my right front window replaced. Look in the DIY article section here. Make sure you put wd-40 on the regulator before you put the door panel back on. It could also be the window buttons.Jane

I would guess regulator and maybe the teeth on motor, almost identical to my 92S regulator and motor $ 400 labor $200.

Thanks! Sounds like the max lift point motor stopping point reference has been compromised as it doesn;t make same noise going to max down just when it gets to the last 3/8th in -10mm of travel-then CLACK CLACK CLACK.

No problem going down now so I may just swap the motor as taking the guts out is tough enough (my bane is I have boxing gloves for hands, last time I did this on a Volvo I looked like I went 10 rounds of katana with Edward Sissorhands).

Anyway-I now know what next weekend is gonna be like!

Happy Sies de Mayo Hangover from Cinco de Mayo!

Most likely the regulator teeth and not the motor gear. I found that the gear was fairly robust, but the regulator is weakly designed. Easy to change out once you get the interior panel off.

Agreed!

Had the same symtoms a few years ago. Sounded like the motor, but after swapping with a known good one, discovered it was indeed the gear drive.
