First ever Mercedes-Seat problem
First post about my first ever Mercedes. I have only owned my 87 300E for a few weeks and just starting the learning process about these cars, so I hope to get some advice from some experienced owners.
This is a great car, and everything works except the power seats. Neither the driver, nor passenger seat will respond to seat adjuster switch inputs, following the directions in the owner's manual. No clicks or other noises indicating attempts by the seats to respond. Fuses checked and found good, but replaced with new anyway. I would suspect switches if I could get some kind of response from either side in any direction or the memory buttons, but absolutely nothing happens. I read about a seat memory relay box under the front driver seat. Could a problem with that cause this? Any advice about troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. |

FWIW. This may not be the problem solver but,..... the switches are statistically the point of highest probability of failure on our older cars.
Remove the seat-shaped buttons (they pull STRAIGHT off; be careful, don't break pins underneath). Shoot some contact/tuner cleaner (Radio Shack) thoroughly into the switches from the now exposed crevices and work the switches vigorously! See if they work. Good luck. If they work, you'll want to disassemble, clean and lube at some point. That's a whole 'nother ballgame!

With no disrespect inteneded, but did you check the wiring connectors under the seats? Odd that both do not work..

Thanks for the replies, it's great to know this forum exists with helpful people so ready and willing. I will check both suggestions at my earliest opportunity. I already looked under the seats and tried to see wiring not hooked up or loose but without success thus far. I may have to remove one or both seats to get to the wiring.
I'm still curious about this module under the driver seat that is supposed to be for seat position memory and whether both seats are connected to it and if a defective module would cause both seats to not work as mine are presently. The switches may just be the problem as is suggested, and I will try to spray clean them with electronics cleaner and see if I get any success. Thanks again, will report any progress. |
