31.2 Mpg?

Dear all,
I recently got back from Dallas. During strict highway-only driving I was getting a constant 31.2 MPG. I calculated it by the old method of topping off the gas and dividing the miles by the gallons used AS WELL AS taking the computer's word for it which showed me. Do you all get this type of mileage also? Is mine too low or higher than what most of you guys get on long trips?

Hirnbeiss 05-10-2007 08:29 PM

31.2 is good so you can be happy. I get 26-27 in mine on the highway, and used to get 29 with my W124 E320. Obviously results will vary with average speed, driving habits, wind, tire pressure, usw.

Just out of curiosity, how fast were you going on average?

Texholdem 05-11-2007 12:47 AM

Wow, the most I got was 27 mpg with my 300CE.

between 70-75MPH !

sokoloff 05-11-2007 12:27 PM

Not to bust your bubble, but one tankful of gas pretty much tells you nothing. Do an average after five or better yet ten tanks and that will be your real average mpg.

That fuel mileage is really too good to be true. I had the same car, but with the turbodiesel engine. It only got 32-33 Hwy MPG, barely beating your number. I currently have a 2001 wagon - same basic car, exact same drivetrain. It generally does 27MPG, plus or minus 1. I've seen 30 briefly - with a strong Texas tailwind during a road trip. Sedans generally get 1-2MPG better than wagons on the road due to cleaner aerodynamics.

Sounds about right

Designo_E320,

Your mileage results match mine - 2002 E320, 31 mpg +/- at 70 - 75 mph.

I agree. This Forum was created for Mercedes specific purposes.
I personally will not even bother answering a post with such a Sig...

Man mine sucks compared to ya'll i only get 13-14 mpg am i missing something here

nhdoc 05-12-2007 05:40 PM

EPA estimates for the 2000 E320 are 21/30 so getting just over 30 on all highway driving is not out of the question but is probably at the top end of what you'd expect. Lots of factors can influence mileage though. Wind speed and direction can have a huge influence. If you're driving into a 20 MPH wind at 75 MPH it's like driving 95 while if it is a tailwind it's like driving 55. Also, if it is hot and the A/C is running more your mileage will be lower than if it is cooler. Finally, like Len said, one tank is really meaningless. You can easily have ±1 gallon difference between fillups just on where the pump stops, even if you "top off" and that would have more than a 5% difference.

Delete.

mparker 05-12-2007 06:06 PM

Sounds right to me

Yes, depends upon driving style, traffic, wind, tire pressures. Straight CA freeway with no traffice jams, 70 mph on cruise, over 100 miles distance, I expect and get over 30.0 mpg.

Hello MR.
IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T FIGURED IT OUT YET that is my SIGNATURE! What a lame thing to bring up. Please follow your own advice. YOU are the one who just brought politics into this forum and YES I agree that this is no place for politics so PLEASE follow your own advice and I agree: "LETS KEEP THE POLITICS OFF THIS MB AUTOMOTIVE FORUM. THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER INTERNET SITES WHERE YOU CAN POST YOUR POLITICAL BELIEFS..........
Better yet Rockman59, please don't post in my future threads as you obviously do NOT have anything constructive to say. I am not here to argue about politics or any other subject. I am here to give and get advice only.

I wish I could drive from Dallas to Eastern NC doesn't one just "one" gas tank but unfortunately it took 3.;) The average I posted was from 3 gas tanks with ONLY 100% Freeway driving.:) I got to fill up once with 93 octane and the last 2 tankfulls were only 91 octane as those were all that were available.

dukegrad98 05-12-2007 09:55 PM

DELETE.

Ripe hypocrisy is lost on some, and this has been a humbling lesson in that you can't teach people who just don't get it. Truth is, in a lot of ways I agree with the guy -- but I know where it belongs and where it doesn't. He'll sort it out sooner or later, too.

Your sig is clearly political, and clearly not welcome -- and nevermind "winning friends and influencing people" with a tantrum after several people gently ask you to keep this about cars.

As far as "winning friends over" I do NOT need narrow minded people to "be my friends". There are MANY awesome members here that do not get offended and act like little boys. LIKE I told you I am not here to discuss anything but MBs. If my signature is offensive to you then don't post. Unfortunately there are people that are always trying to pick fights and I do not give them the pleasure. Please lets keep it MB and don't pay attention to my sig as this is who I am. As for Rockman he should know that his post on my thread is for "open discussion", a place where I do not hang out and do NOT like to hangout as it is a complete waste of time as far as I am concerned.;) I like to keep it strictly MB. :) Thanks

I really don't care about your signature or your opinions about our president - but you might want to consider taking your own advice and changing your signature. (If this is how you really feel)

Tim,
Since you asked so nicely and your advice was given so sincerely and since you showed class, I deleted my sig.:) I will change it to say something else later on.
Thanks

Relax, Designo! One does not have to say something to manifest something, my 2 cents! ;)

2002 E320 4matic

My wife has a 2002 E320 4MATIC and we regularly get 30-31 mpg when cruising on the highway. Around town with mixed driving (city/highway) we get 25-26 mpg consistently. Pretty good for an all-wheel drive vehicle!
