W124 Center vents no A/C Climate Control ?
I have a 1992 300D 2.5 Turbo. It is a great car and a few days ago the center vents seem to not work. However, in the morning (cooler weather) they seem to work. At least for a while. The center vents work fine on "vent"... defrost works too! Any ideas? I hope that it is something that may be a minor repair and not a major repair...

Could be vacuum pod failure. If you have a Mity-Vac, you can check them at the central junction. Remove the kick panel passenger side and you will see the color coded vacuum lines branching off to their various destinations. Somewhere on the web or in the manual there is a chart of which line goes where.

It is probably a failing center-vent vacuum pod, OR low vacuum.
If you have the manual, there is a procedure to test the pods without removing the glove box. All you could want to know: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=35373

Center Vents work on vent
Just an added note the center vents fork just fine when vent is selectd... but when a/c is selected they seem to "disengage"... also in the morning when the car is cool the center vents, a/c, may work just fine...
Any ideas? Thanks!! Hal |

W124 Cent vent with A/C on question
Another added point on my center vent issue... Of course any help here is very welcome...!!
What I have found is that the a/c center vent seems to work fine if the outside temp is say 65 degrees F. I know your saying why run it at that temp. However, I was wondering if there could be some sort of "controller" or "sensor" malfunctions... Or what about the controls what happens when the climate controller fails? Any ideas on controller symptoms? Thanks again!!! Hal |
