pse unit requires programming?

I have to change the PSE pump on the 00 E430. The dealer is asking for $190 just for initial diagnostics and then labor / parts extra comes later !
I already know it's the PSE pump. I have taken it apart as well. Not an issue. Just wanted to know if the new part will be a simply plug and play or would any other modules or the PSE itself require programming to work the the car.
thnx in advance.

according to the mercedes parts guide, it does require programming during installation. footnote 423

just insist they replace the pump, without diag, obviously you are taking it knowing by your own diag it is the pump

good idea. i'll call and check if the dealership will change without charging diagnostics. somehow i dont see that happening.
how much is involved in programming the unit ? do we need to have the mercedes software for it ?

programming needs to be done with a mercedes factory tool, is there an independent mercedes shop near you? many have the tool and can do the programming, i have it if you are near san diego

thanks very much for the replies and once again for the offer. i'm however, in NJ so :)
will keep you posted on how it went once I get the time to go and get this done.
the PSE is operational to the point where the doors do lock, it's only the stupid trunk that wont unlock either with the key remote or the inside button ever since the PSE was soaked with water.
I tried drying it, de-oxidizing it and everything. for now i'll simply lock/unlock the trunk with the key :)

P.S. is there a way to have a regular key made for the w210 series ? there's this small key blade in the key but I'd rather have the regular key for the frequent opening of the trunk now...

does your main key not have the metal blade?

the "emergency" key blade is available mb# 208-766-17-06
