86 190e ovp issue,HELP!!!!!
so far,ive blown a 25,,20,,, 15 and three 10,,,,fuses between 2 brand new ovp's. battery @ cold before start,12.3,,,with all sorta doo-dads on and after warming volts never really exceed 14.5 or so,,max once was 14.8.......volts seem to go down as i turn on more electrical stuff.never below 14 though until i turn off, then goes down in stages to 12.5-ish. performance nor start issues really, but,no power at throttle microswitch,a/c compressor,,,,the obvious.....but my question really is,,how could i blow a 25 and not seem to have other issues that havent destroyed the car yet ?? im thinking alternator ??? an snapshot of someone elses battery compartment on an 190e 84-88 would be great, plastic cover removed of course............any ideas would be great !

Not sure but I don't think you'd blow a fuse for high voltage,,, maybe a short or corrosion, most likely

Dead short this unit supplies current to several items, one has a wire that has a bare spot to ground or a switch that has shorted out. pull a search for the items it runs I recall some one had a list of items this unit operates in post not to long ago. JNT

Have you checked the voltage regulator...?
In my 300e, it caused a lot of wear problems...

Blown fuse at OVP
The overvoltage relay works like this. B+ (12v pos.) enters at one end of the fuse, at the other end power is distributed to consumers such as CIS, However the downstream end of the fuse also has a connection to a Zener Diode (Zener diodes do not conduct power until until a threshold value has been exceeded.)The other end of the diode goes to ground. If the voltage in the ssysstem exceeds the threshold the diode switches on and creates a short to ground and blows the fuse!
The wire that brings power to the relay is a 2.5mm cable and can easily withstand a 25 amp surge. Check your battery for correct level. Mike |

190 ovp
thanks for all the input guys.currently she sits at the MB OF NASHVILLE E.R,,,,,gotten it down to a short in the cis-e,,$850.00 for the part,,,,ha-ha,love it !! dont hav theyre bill yet,but i gave them a looooooong list......told them to give it the certified pre-owned inspection an electrical inspection {if thats not a usual part/just to be sure},handed them $2,000 worth of parts that would each fit in the palm of your hand virtually with obvious directives,,told them to bring it up to spec as much as is possible and since {last thursday} have called back twice with list of things i forgot/thought to just go ahead and let them do,,yesterday purchased a new stereo for it,,,,,,,,,,by next week ill have invested about 5-6,000 dollars so far.........i need an exhaust system, virtually the whole thing, set of tires, new paint, passenger side fender and door, set of wheels theres another 5,000.................so,im wondering should someone start a money pit thread,,surely theres alot of horror stories,,,,,,,,oh,did i also mention about 2 weeks after i got the car,the guys ex-wife called to tell me the engine was rebuilt after she put 5lbs. of sugar in the tank....it was rebuilt by joe nobody,so god only knows what the 60k miles of driving or so since has done. at first 1300 bucks seemed to good to be true. hopefully i dont hear something worse when mb calls,,,,i almost expect i will though.oh, i also found in my fusebox,r-4 was missing. dont know what it controls. but that was sorta the last straw/deciding factor for the trip to m.b.
