Coolant leaking on 190E 2.6
 

My 190E has a coolant leak. I have detected that it is coming from underneath the water pump. The coolant will eventually work its way down around the oil pan. What is involved in this fix? Do I need a new pump? Is there a gasket? Is there another hose under there? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I just did this fix this weekend. I have a 93 300D.

Same symptoms as urs.

The job is simple.Take off the rubber pipe that goes from the air filter to the turbo. Since u do not have a turbo, remove the pipe from the air filter to engine.

Drain coolant from the radiator. Drain coolant from block - there is a bolt below the thermostat tighten to 30Nm

There r 2 bolts that hold the thermostat housing to the engine - tighten to 10Nm. Watch how the current thermostat seats in the housing. There is a point on the housing that seats on a specific part of thermostat.

Clean area where thermostat seats. I used a flat head screw driver to scrap off gunk in that area. I also used a liquid sealant - made by Honda. Many mechanics claim that this is one of the best sealant in the market. Sold at any Honda dealership.

Use the correct type of coolant. Use either MB coolant or coolant that meets the MB standard. I used Honda coolant.

Should take u about an hour - includes a beer break!

Another thing - leave the overflow tank cap loose for a couple of days. The engine will expell air pockets over a couple of days.
