2 things..
Make sure that the oxygen sensor is working & that the fuel mixture is adjusted correctly so that the system goes into closed loop.

RIANNAUSA 05-31-2007 12:07 AM

Ok

i have installed brand new O2 sensors and both my fuel pressure regulators are brand new too. by the way what do u mean bout the fuel mixture????

mespe 05-31-2007 09:41 AM

Have you replaced the air filter? Also look for gunk in the intake,,, pieces of carbon create resistance to air flow which would richen the mixture (albeit a little)

hey

Thanks for the advice ill double check it again. its just frustrating that its not passing! love the car a lot and hate to see it like this.

pawoSD 05-31-2007 11:07 PM

They even make you do emissions testing on a car that old? Thats insane. No emissions tests or inspections in Michigan. :D

RIANNAUSA 06-01-2007 10:48 PM

yup

I know its crazy!!! but then again its California.

Sapperbmet 06-01-2007 11:11 PM

pawoSD, I know it is insane the emissions requirements out here in California, I moved from Michigan back in November and my head is still spinning

You can say that again. I bought my SEC in Washington State.(No sales tax. Drove it home and had to hand over $772 just to get it registered, which of coarse included a user tax.
I had a mechanic put in a newly rebuilt smog pump. The PO had disconnected the origonal one because of a bad bearing.

Engine seemed to run great. But I too failed at smog test. A test and repair station charged me another $125 to fine tune the air/fuel mix and bring down the RPMs a little. Only then did the car pass. Because of the H
hydrocarbons, the guy said I should look too change the cat before the next test. It's pretty tired he said.

Good luck

RIANNAUSA 06-03-2007 08:05 PM

yup

im going to wait and see if the car will pass this wednesday. if not i dunno what to do with it, it runs smooth and quite but test failed last 2 times.

Trish

why are you going back without having it fixed? you
run the chance of being a gross polluter which will really
mess up yer day. go to a shop that knows mb's and get it fixed.
anything from a bad sp plug to a bad cat could fail it.
next time tell us what failed.

RIANNAUSA 06-04-2007 12:19 AM

ok

Ill let you guys know where it failed at. its actually at the shop as we speak but i dont think they are doin a good job so ill take take it to a mb shop.

Try using some of that G.T.P. additive in the car. The stuff is amazing. They guarantee you to pass emissions with it, or supposedly, they pay for either your re-test, or repairs, or something like that.
G.T.P. by the way means Guaranteed To Pass...I've used it, and the stuff really worked well on my 87 F-150 with no Cats, or Oxygen sensors at all, and a mildly modified 302 in it. The truck failed by a long shot the first time through, so I dumped some of that into it, did nothing else, and ran it back through. I passed with flying colors the second time around, and only a few hours after the first time through. The guy at the Emissions station was kinda dumb-founded, to see it, and asked me what I did. I didn't know what to say, so I told him I had advanced the timing, and he smirked, and gave me my paperwork. Every auto parts store, and even Walmart stocks the stuff...Oe can in the tank, and drive it around a while, and run it through the test..

RIANNAUSA 06-04-2007 10:24 AM

hey

Heading to walmart today. Thanks

RIANNAUSA 06-09-2007 02:44 PM
