Got new ignition tumbler but need help.... please
Hi everyone,
94 c280. Got new ignition tumbler today. I have done readings from many postings re: how to replace one. 1. turn key to accessory position 2. insert release tool into slots to release latch 3. pull tumbler out with key 4. insert new tumber in reverse order.... My problem is: 1. unable to remove the black bezel around the tumbler; I assume I need to remove it first to expose the slots, right? How do I remove it? 2. on new tumber, I don't see any slot/groove/channel to guide the release tools to the latch. The guy at MB said it is the right tumbler (VIN matched). I used the new key that comes with it, works on every locks and ignition. I will very much appreciate any help. I don't just want to save the labour cost, more importantly is I want to learn how to do it. Thank you and I am attaching some images. KC |

Did you search the archives for ignition tumbler and 202? There is a lot of stuff here. I never had a 202, so I can't say exactly how yours comes out.

The W202 chassis tumbler requires that the black ring be slightly depressed & at the same time turned 1/4 turn counter-clockwise...no provision for inserting a wire release tool.
There is a special tool for the job.

Thanks MB DOC. I'll try tonight. I was on my way to take the bottom part (knee bolster0 below the steering wheel off but got stuck at the point where I need a long neck socket to reach up to the bolt (my socket extension thing wasn't long enough so I couldn't get a good look at the surrounding of the tumbler housing.
I did many searches for W202 but was unable to locate any info related to the tumbler on 202. Many thanks again. KC |

Sorry to bother you again MB DOC.
If I am successful in removing the black bezel as per your instruction, do I then do the "turn tumbler to accessory position then pull out" thing, given that there doesn't seem to have any holes/slots for the wire? KC |
