In April up here in the NE my garage " evacuated system, installed dye and freon " for $100.I recently tried system and it blows slightly cool at best while compressor fan literally roars from under hood. Any suggestions appreciated.

What year & model??
You need to have readings from a/c gauges to see if it is a refrigerant problem. |

Its a 1997 SL500. This morning with ambient temp about 70 degrees it blew cold. Last nite with temp about 85 didn`t seem to work at all. What about that wicked roaring sound from under hood? Thanks |
They probably put dye in the system because they suspected a leak. Go back and have it re-checked. The dye makes it quick and easy to find even slight leaks.

Depends if it is the blower fan on the inside of the cabin, or if it is the compressor in the engine compartment.
If it is the blower inside the cabin, something fell down into the path of the blower fan and it is causing the fan to bind up. To correct this I would remove the lower kick panel to access the blower, remove the blower cover and the blower. I've seen mouse nests, spark plug boxes, leaves, crayons, etc in the blower's path. If it is in the engine compartment, I'd hazard a guess that the A/C compressor is having issues, either there is not enough oil in the system and it is grinding; or the bearing is going out. At 10 year of age, the compressor bearing is a likely canidate. |
