Hey guys my wifes car is a 190e 1990 model in great nick but the little light for the auto selector has gone, and when you turn on the lights the dash comes on but no light to select the gear you change.
cant work out how to remove the wood grain to get to the selector afraid of damaging wood trim. Short of taking out whole centre console is there another way to get to it, without damaging trim? Any help appreciated. Is it a globe or maybe fibre optics? BB :( |
The wood panel is a snapin type fit in the console. I have had mine apart a few times. Gently pry up working very patiently around the perimeter on the wood panel,it will come off. Remember, be very patient and good luck.

I just did this to my 1992 190E before selling it....start by removing the black plastic surrounding the selector, use your fingers and wiggle up the edges...there are 4 points that snap in ; 2 at the top and 1 on the side and bottom. I used a butter knife wrapped in masking tape to pry up the wood. Next, at the top of the shifter gate unit is the twist plug holding the tiny bulb; not really a globe bulb...maybe .50cents at the dealer...I recommend bulb grease on the base. Took me about 5 minutes. Good luck
