OK, you W126 exhaust system experts
I got most of the front exhaust system pieces out of the car. Now how do you remove the bolts holding the pipe to the manifold?
The big bulby precat blocks all access, and I can't get enough torque using a flex socket. I managed to grind the front bolt head off using my Dremel. But I can't reach the Dremel to the back one. I guess I can still drive it to the shop if I absolutely have to. I don't have a cutting torch or anything industrial like that. I can't quit now, HELP! |
Really?? I've always been able to get them off w/ long extensions and universal/swivel ends. Did you soak them in penetrating oil?
You can also turn them till they snap..the captive nuts in the manifold drive out w/ moderate effort. Jonathan |

Spray them with "PB".
Did you try a regular wrench, instead of a socket..? Often times, that's the only thing low profile enough to actually get in there. |
Quite..PB blaster is Far superior to WD. CRC is also making some very nice penetrating oils these days.
You should be able to have someone push the captive nut down from above. Good luck w/ it! Jonathan |
Nah, didn't work. The captive nut got rounded off somehow. I managed to squeeze the Dremel tool through, and ground off that bolt head as well. Gotta love the Dremel. :)

Just curious, what is the replacemnet exhaust you are putting onto the car..?
