Just A Note About Fastlane
For all you guys that haven't yet tried Fastlane, the parts service that is recommended by this forum, you are missing some good deals and great service. I recently ordered some new Bilstiens for my W124, saved over $50 from the nearest competitor and it was hassle-free dealing with Phil. Save money and time by using Fastlane, you won't regret it.
BTW, why would anyone even think about putting anything but Bilstiens on their Mercedes? It rides and corners like a dream now, even with the comfort model. All I can say is WOW, huge difference from stock. |

Hi,
how much have they cost and what did you pay for replacement or was it DIY job? If DIY could a layman like me do it? Thanks!

Agree - but a question
I agree - every purchase from FastLane has been great
Would definitely do it again, and it supports this great forum. Question - I just purchased a 1990 W124, and it needs shocks (and other things) - what shocks did you buy? Standard - or stiffer? ![]()

I went with the Bilstein Comforts, which supposedly are a tad stiffer than factory but still give a great overall ride. They are well worth the money, I paid $400 and change & another $200 to have them professionaly installed. Not worth doing alone, not a one person job, and always better to have a professional examing these parts while they do it.

HD's only
Sorry guys,
I think that the HDs are a better choice. I have a prominent dip in my street. The E420 with the Std Bilsteins bottoms out when I drive about 25 mph over the dip. Not so with my 87 300E. I have not noticed any difference in cornering, just the response to dips. Anziani |

I have heard from many people that for all around everyday use, the Bilstein Comfort shocks are the best.
After several years with the Bilstein Comforts, I heartily concur. Very smooth, and great for occasional hard cornering. I am pretty sure the Bilsteins come with a lifetime guarantee. Someone else correct me if I am wrong about that. The HD are a little too stiff for normal use.

Also, IMHO, it's bad form to suggest purchasing comparable parts from another supplier. To me, it just seem kinda rude. jp
