I'm afraid it could be th EZL. I hope not...

Your chassis is HFM/SFI , coil over waste spark..no ezl

How did you check for spark?
How does the wire harness look?
Did you check for voltage at primary sides of coils?
All three coils have to have 'Always Hot" , as the individual switching is done by a switched ground at the HFM module. The 3 coils pos feed is a common single feed in the harness and right where they T off to each coil has been a weak link on bad wire harness. The test is to check for suppy volytage to coils primary w/key ON

checked wiring harness and got 12.3 volts on the T and got the car to run for a minute. Youre right! Its more likely the wiring harness. Thanks Arthur Dalton!

Arthur are you familiar with the 5 speed automatic tiptronic transmissions on these S320's? My trans sometimes would not shift to overdrive fifth and if I shift it manually it comes back to fourth gear.

No...but you may want to try a new post with Tiptronic in the header..there are tranny guys here. Try the Search feature too....

Those 722.5's are notorious for blowing out their 5th gear...it's undersized and should never have been produced by MB.

I suggest to anyone running a .5 that they save 5th gear for highway driving only. That and change your fluid more often then not.

Does this also apply to the 722.6 by chance?

Only the early .6's were terribly problematic..and for different reasons.

wiring harness

I have just replaced my engine wiring harness for my 94 S320 W140 Mercedes and its back to normal. I paid a little over $500 brand new from a dealer. Thanks
for your help.

Very good....

Just wanted to let you know......I fixed my tranny problem by replacing a microswitch for fifth gear located under the shifter in the center console. Thanks
guys.
