Any Way to Rig Headlight Wipers on a 124--Turn On When Uni-Wiper is On

I know this sounds silly, but maybe I have a little extra time on my hands ;). I never find myself using the headlight wipers (requires both the headlights on and washer fluid activated), and, having just replaced the blades, I figured it would be neat if they operated in the rain every time the main wiper is turned on. Is there a way to make this happen? Sorry for the odd inquiry!!!

Hi, I am providing the wiring diagrams for HeadlightWiperWasher and main WiperWasher circuits. I think with proper rewiring you can get the effect you desire. I myself have yet to figure out which wire goes to which.
Maybe can someone with electrical skill help.

Connect a wire from the main wiper motor (black yellow gray) and route it to terminal 4 of the headlamp washer relay (located in the fuse box). Also disconnect the wire that goes to that terminal 4. Otherwise your washer pumps will run when the wipers are on.

A few compromises with this mod.

1. Headlight wipers will only run on "LO". Not on fast or intermittent.

2. Headlamp washer pump will run whenever the wiper runs. Unless you move the connection from this headlight washer pump to the main washer pump. Move the (black red yellow wire on the headlight washer pump to the (violet yellow) wire that you disconnected from terminal 4 of the headlamp washer relay. Or you have the option of just disconnecting the headlamp washer pump altogether.

As per the previous posts, it's seems like a doable project...

...the concern I have is that the headlight wipers only come on briefly when the washer is activated (when headlights are on). The motors may not be designed for sustained operation like the big mono-wiper...

Agree! Be advised that the headlamp wiper motors are not designed for continous operation (only periodical use).

I know of two owners who, for fun, did what you want to do and soon their headlamp wiper motors failed. To make mattters more interesting, they usually fail stucked in the up position making the headlamp wipers look awful.

I've seen it done, and as previous posts hinted, the motors burned out after just a few days of heavy rain. They just aren't designed to handle the heat of constant use.

Yep!

Those were pretty cool!

Got any schematics for the stereo system for a 93 W124? I'm trying to integrate the factory harness with an aftermarket head unit...I'm trying not to splice any wires!

I think it's a great idea...

However, the wiper blades will make extremely short work of your headlight lenses, as they are not the same durable material, as the windshield.

They also do not have the laminate coating that the rest of the glass on the car does...

Just my .02 cents..
