HELP! I found an extra spring and dont know where it goes!

THis is ridiculous! I have had my 1990 190E 2.6 for sale and the most bizarre things have gone wrong with the car. First a claiper locked up on a test drive and then the fan or one of the items that runs off the accessory belt is making a undiesirable grinding noise. I fixed the brake caliper and cant seem to determine which item is making the new "bad bearing" grind up at the front engine cooling fan. BUT NOW! I let a guy test drive it and he came back to tell me it tried to die everytime he gave it gas. He left and I opened her up only to find that indeed it is backfiring and the rpms drop to almost nothing on acceleration. I removed the air cleaner to find a "throttle return spring" unconnected and just laying on top of the throttle linkage. I can not see where it goes either.
Can anyone get me directed to the correct location to connect this dumb spring. I dont remember what it goes to and it is not the same as my 16v so I have nothing to look at for reference.
I have attached a photo of the spring and If anyone can get me a picture of a 88-91 2.6 throttle linkage with the cables and springs I can reconnect this spring to see if it fixes the bad stall. Prior to this there was no hesitation in the car.

Damn I'm at work or i'd get you a pic.

Do a search here someone posted the diagram a while back. There should be a hole on the throttle linkage. I'll see if I can find the diagram here.

Here are some threads...
The first one has a pick of the linkage spring for a 2.3 I believe. The second one has a pick of a 300E. Hope this helps...

Springs for throttle linkage

Ok, so I went out to look again and still have no idea where the second spring is supposed to be connected. It has been a while since I looked at the linkage. One spring shown in the photo I just took is connected to the butterfly valve of the air flow meter. The other spring is in my hand and I have no home for it.

Here is what I have right now to work with.

I would not let them test drive it alone.
They may be beating your car to death to see what it's got.

I had a guy blow an engine in a small block Dart going for a test drive, needless to say it ruined any future sale of a nice turn key, unrestored dart.

found for spring location

YAL, your diagram link did the trick, i got the spring back on.
Great.
Now some unknown reason it has started to back fire on acceleration.

Dude I just gave the diagram on the second link I posted. On the diagram the front of the car is to the left :)

Ok you see the thin stiff steel piece to left of the white X in your picture above. Follow that as it goes left until it comes into contact with the linkage. Right there is a hole for one end of the spring.

The other end of the spring goes to.....do you see the steel S bend at the end of the rubber hose. After the first curve of the steel from either direction it goes straight for a little bit. Just below that straight part is the hole for the other end of the spring.

HAHAHAHAHAHA GREAT :D I just posted the above but you can ignore it LOL :D

Thank YAL

Hey YAL,
Thanks a lot, the spring is back on correctly now.
NEW PROBLEM: The grinding I was mentioning from the fan/alternator/power steering pulley area of the car is no longer a problem. Not a problem because none of them are tunring now since the fan belt was thrown off while driving. The fan belt was thrown off due to a little problem called the entire fan, hydro clutch and fann pulley have seperated them selves from the front of the engine block. YES, actually fallen off the front of the engine and is laying between the fan shroud, the radiator, and the front of the engine block. Have you ever heard this happening? I am not even sure where to start to get this put back on. The the heck happened? Is there a bearing that the pulley shaft rides on that is mounted in the front of theengine block that siezed or something?
