Wife purchased an 85 380SL while I was out of town. I have the Maintenance CD for my 126 model, is there a similiar CD or paper manuals available for the 107 model?
She reports the car is clean, only thing she found wrong was water on both floor boards. Previous owner claimed ignorance. What is the most common cause? A/C drain? Windshield drains? Windshield gasket? I will investigate this weekend when I get home. Question on list ettiquite. Should I just post SL questions on the SL board, both boards, or is there an automatic routing of some sort? |

There is a W107 CD available.
Given that the car is a roadster, the water on the floorboards could result from a number of things. Leaving the top down in the rain is the most obvious (!), although leaking convertible top seals or A-pillar seals are not unheard of. I suppose the top itself could have a problem. Needless to say, whatever the cause, you need to get the water out of there, otherwise it could sit there for a long time and rot the floorboards out from the inside. |

RE: leaking 380 SL
I guess I should have added that the hard top is on. Is it more leak proof than the soft top?

Assuming all is OK, it should be, although it's vulnerable to a lot of the same problems (ie. leaks from the seal between the top and the windshield, A-pillar leaks and leaks from the seals between the top and the side windows). It could even be a leaking heater core or something of that nature (although in that case you'd have coolant rather than water). You'll have to check it out.

water leak
another area to check and the easiest, at the base of the windshield are 2 grills (outside) they have drain holes and when clogged water backs up and drips onto the inside floor.
they each have a hose that drain out next to the transmission. blow some compressed air into the hoses and than pour some water from the top(grill) to flush things out. this was my problem and i have no leaks anymore. |

380 leaks follow up
Ran the hose on the car. Could find no leaks. Next I ran the A/C. Nothing out the bottom, so I cleaned the drains. That helped, but still had a trickle of water. Using a mirror and flashlight I finally found water leaking out of the bottom seam in the heater case. Liberal application of RTV, so far so good. Need to replace a cracked dash board at some point in the future. will probably change the heater case at the same time.
