Question about H4 headlights?????
I just bought the european depo headlights for a 1992 300ce, and they take h4 bulbs. I look at all the h4 bulbs, and they say 60/55 watt = 100/90 watt. Now I don't know what to think of it. Does it mean that all 60/55 watt bulbs run at 100/90 watts, or thats just the name. Do I buy the 60/55, or 100/90 and if i do buy the 100/90 will it damage my headlight? I do want the headlights at 8000k or 8500k.
Thank You for any input |
The standard H4 60/55 watt and it's recommended that you stay with that bulb.
Although 100/90 watt bulbs are available, the wiring in the vehicle is not up for that task without a proper set of relays. In addition to obtaining far less than 100/90 watts from the bulbs, you'll develop quite a bit of heat in the wiring, potentially damaging the insulation if it continues for sufficient time. |
Any comments on these headlights, they seem to be what I am looking for, I just don't know the company, Is it trustworthy, or will I have to buy new headlights every few months?
:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused: |
The listing is not for headlights. It's for the H4 lamps. I have no knowledge of the seller or his product, but, usually, these outfits don't measure up to the known brands.
Nearly $12.00 for shipping is ridiculous. |
Shipping & Handling- What a Joke!
This PUTZ actually lists WHY he charges the $12 PLUS $2.30 insurance
1) He is too cheap or fly by night to get a UPS account 2) His "staff" is him and his syphalitic cousin Fred 3) He charges for "his own insurance" which is BS. 4) His product ios as illegal as the rest of the Taiwanese crap out there 5) Makes the error of calling them "headlights" and not BULBS - so buy 'em and SUE the Effer when he ships you 2 crappy bulbs as the as states HEADLIGHTS and not just lamps. Trouble with Ebay is that just like a toilet...the turds always float on the top. |
That is funny. Well it seems like I will head to a my local MB dealer, pay a lot of money but get good quality products. Thanks for the advice

I typically get the Hella's from Susquehanna Motorsports. They are adequate for the task. |
Well thanks again, for saving me more time, Sylvarstars would work, although I would prefer the color tempeture to be about 6k or 8k, which ever is more blue, and less purple and white. I know now that my two weeks research will extend to a month just to get the right product. But its all the my benz. Thanks again.

SilverStar Plus seem to be brighter than the regular silverstars..

I use SilverStars. You want white light, not blue. Blue is just a gimmick which, in fact, reduces the amount of light a given bulb puts out. SilverStars are fine, but they have a tendency to burn out faster than regular light bulbs. In another site, our own lkchris posted a link to a place in England where they sell Euro SilverStars. They seem to be brighter. Yu may want to email or IM him for the link. Good luck. You will love your new Euro lights. I have Bosch euros in the 300TE and Depo euros in the 300CE. They work and look great (and no major differences between the Bosch and Depo assemblies) (Just stay away from the high wattage blue lights, they are junk and will hurt your wiring). |
Well thank you Benz-LGB, I highly respect your opinion, since you have helped me install my depo headlights, you may not know this but another member kept referring to your post. Thank you again, and I will get the euro silverstars.

I have been helped by so many people here that it is only fair to do the same for others. As a community, our database of common knowledge can't be beat. Just watch it, next time around it will be you helping out others. :D Let me know how the new lights work. |

Got it.... |
Well I do hope I can help others out some day.
Oh and one last quick question...I was wondering whether or not the 4100k silverstar 60/55 watt lamps are cooler than a 6000k 60/55 watt lamp. Does the color temperature effect the overall temperature as well, and if so how significant is it. I just might use the 6000k bulbs for show purposes only. |
Also how about the 5000k bulbs. Do they do any damage, and are they blue enough for show purposes, etc.

I think that the heat given by any given bulb is dependent on the wattage going through it. The colour of light (as espxressed in kelvin units or K) is dependant on other factors. The lights on my 1998 E320 are HID. They are nearly white, but burn a lot cooler than the lights in the 300CE. Here is a brief write up (from wikipedia) regarding color temperature. Colour temperature The kelvin is often used in the measure of the colour temperature of light sources. Colour temperature is based upon the principle that a black body radiator emits light whose colour depends on the temperature of the radiator. Black bodies with temperatures below about 4000 K appear reddish whereas those above about 7500 K appear bluish. Colour temperature is important in the fields of image projection and photography where a colour temperature of approximately 5500 K is required to match “daylight” film emulsions. In astronomy, the stellar classification of stars and their place on the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram are based, in part, upon their surface temperature. The Sun for instance, has an effective photosphere temperature of 5778 K. Hope this helps. |
That actually does help. I will buy a pair of 6000k lights at 60/55 watts for show purposes. As for everyday use, the silverstars are perfect.
Thanks again |
