Is this DIY job difficult

Hi,

My car needs new flex discs. My DIY abilities are not too great. I have changed my brakes, voltage regulator, and things like that. Is this a job that is fairly easy and is there a good DIY link on this job? I did the search and did not find much step by step instructions.

Thanks

stupid question: is flex disc another name for brake rotor?

No, It is related to the driveshaft/Transmission area.

I would like to know the answer to this too. I think that the exhaust has to be dropped down to access the flexdisks.

I replaced the front flex disc on my '93 190E 2.3. I did not have to lower the exhaust to R/R the flex disc like I did when I replaced the Vacuum Modulator.
Here's how I did mine:

1) Put front end on Jack Stands
2) Jacked up rear end (leave transmission in neutral to turn drive shaft)
3) Removed rear flex disc first to make room to slide drive shaft to the rear to remove front flex disc
4) Removed front flex disc (I could see that mine was torn/shredded)
5) Install new front flex disc
6) Re-install rear flex disc (mine looked good at this time)
7) Lower car and test drive (what a difference...nice smooth shifts)

Hope this helps.

You can do it and this might help

Here is a really good thread on doing the flex disc. Removing the exhaust on these 300 turbo diesels is very easy. Read the following and go for it.

Is that the best thread around on this subject?

That one was mostly a fight about how much shops should charge for their services.
