1987 260e, ABS going crazy

Does low brake pad cause ABS on a 1987 260E to go wacky?
My front pads are quite worn now. Wonder if it has anything to
do with teh crazy ABS. Come up to stop light and it will kick
my feet like there is no tomorrow. Is there a way to disable
ABS on this car? I mean, I drove a GM for many years with
out ABS

Rather than avoiding problems and as a safety issue I would suggest replacing the brake pads first. While you are at it do a visual check of the sensor ring teeth and sensors. I would think if it were a sensor cable or electrical problem the ABS warning lamp would come on.

I removed the black plastic cover on the hydraulic unit and unplugged/removed both of the relays on my 380SE. I only drive this car in summer. The pedal was pulsing at low speeds and occasionally at highway speeds too, with the ABS light always on. Way too much $$ to fix for the usefullness of it IMO. I removed the bulb and socket from the instrument panel and pushed it up under the dash, as I'd read that removing the bulb fools the system into thinking there is a fault when there may not be one (in my case, it's probably a sensor).
However, now my criuse control won't engage, so I might play around to see what the connection is between these 2 systems....
