POS W210 Brake lights

I replaced the right side tail light cluster in my 97 E420 because the circuit around the brake lights got damaged. Less the a year later, I'm having the same issue and the brake light is out. Is there a way I can hack this with a work around as replacing a defective design clearly didn't work out.

The prior owner of my '98 E300 put in LED taillight clusters. They're a tad more modern if you care about that, and so far seem to work very well. They can be had affordably on eBay. Just something you might want to look into before factory replacement.

Thanks David, the car will be going on loan to a colleague as she has to turn in her lease, but we'll catch pretty soon.

Al,

I have had failures on both pods on my 96. In one case the plastic portion of the light cluster was broken and would not hold the bulb. One fix just a new light pod. In the other case it was the bulb contact location on the pod. I bent up the metal contact panel and all is well. I found the solution on the board but it took a lot of reading. The tail light set up on the W210 could be better.

Thanks, I was going to try to use tin foil to tilt the bulb a little. I really like the concept of the LED cluster. While I am a purist, these should be completely trouble free, and since Ive already done this once. I wouldn't mind trying something new. It can't be worse then what I have now.

alabassi -- those look just like the units the prior owner of my car installed.

Cheers, John
