Changing the A/C compressor
Folks the plan is to change out my A/C compressor on my 89 300E this weekend. Does anyone have any stories (horror or otherwise) ? It kind of looks like taking the P/S pump off might make it a bit easier getting to.

i did this last year...and did not remove the power steering pump....
the problem is i can't remember what i did exactly.. i do remember that replacing the expansion valve was much more difficult... and re-threading the belt without taking off the fan was a pia... when you do that...loosen the alternator... the belt will slip over it... that way you won't lose that thing a ma jig part that everyone always says gets ruined. i am sorry .. i am a bit tired. but getting the compressor out wasn't all that difficult.. you just have to wiggle it a bit. |

follow up to A/C comp. replacement
Thanks for the info it was just what the doctor ordered. Loosening the alternator was all that was needed to provide the proper slack in the belt and it allowed for enough tension to remain to protect the belt tensioner. The whole change out only took 1 to 2 hours. Very easy !
