Question about Mercedes 190E 2.3 16V

Hello, I know mercedes but not this particular car, the 190E 16V that is. Does anyone know how many of the early years were imported to the U.S. (84 and 85's)? Also, as far as a collectible stand point which years would be the most sought after? What should be looked for on this particular car when considering purchasing?
Thanks for any info available.

There's actually no accurate count for the 84-85 gray market cars. Some were imported by dealers, some by private owners. Mine is a 84 build 1985 that was imported by the original owner.

MBUSA, during the years 1986 and 1987 officially brought in 2,200 2.3-16 that were made for the North American market.

I'd make sure the SLS is still intact and working.

I'd also want only a stock car - too many kids have butchered these cars.

I'd never buy an automatic 16v.

Get one with the three center gages all working. Or be prepared to spend some bucks for good used ones.

Check the rear subframe for rust and cracks. Not that hard to fix if you are a do-it-yourself-er.

Depending on miles, may want to have that timing chain and guides done soon, if not alreay done.
