AT Cooling Line
1 Attachment(s)
The car is a ’92 201/2.3
I have an issue with a new flexible automatic transmission cooling hose that goes from the tranny to the radiator (sort of like the one in the image). First off, it’s been sitting in my parts bin in my shop for a couple of years, so it’s too late to return it. When I went to install it this weekend, I realized that it’s supposed to have a 90-degree bend at the radiator end – the line I have does not. I’ve searched locally for an adapter, but no luck. So here’s my question: Aren’t these AT cooling lines low-pressure? The connections appear to be high pressure connections, but that seems extraordinarily over-engineered if they are low-pressure lines. Would it be crazy to simply cut the line and use a brass barb connection? BTW, the correct part is no longer available through Fastlane. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks in advance. Jeff Pierce |
Jeff:
If you would like for it to be modified professionally, go thru your local yellow pages. Look for: Hose Coupling & Fittings Hose Indistrial Mfrs Hose & Tubing Flexible Metal Hydraulic Equipment Repair I used one of these places to rebuild a high pressure power steering hose on my MB. They knew exactly what to do. |
They're not high pressure, but you do need a good seal or the ends will seep fluid. You have to tighten them up pretty damn tight to get a seal. I know because I've just had mine out.

Mike:
Thanks for the tip. I will use the info you gave. My first stop was at a place called Hydraulic Hose & Assembly -- it's right down the road from my house. They were very helpful, but didn't have what I needed. They gave me the name of a place that might have what I need, but I've been unable to get there during business hours. Parrot: What I was thinking of was something like the attached image. It would make the 90 degree bend I need, but still use the supplied connectors. Anyone: Your thoughts? Again, thanks in advance.
