300E 4MATIC SLS questions.
 

I have a 1991 300E 4MATIC. I am trying to learn about my SLS system and i have a question about the pump.

I may be very wrong here. But from what i can tell, the reservoir is connected directly into the Power Steering Pump. From there i only see two more lines connected to the reservoir.

If this is the case. What kind of fluid should i be using for my system?

I am currently using mobil1 synthetic ATF for my 4matic sls.some will say stick to the mbz recommended"liquid gold" but alternatives will work.:)

Thanks for the advice on the fluid. So does the Power steering and sls system use the same pump/fluid?

They can and thats one of my reasons for using atf.one fluid for all .that includes the transfer case for the 4matic.as these cars age seals can go in the power steering pump and transfer case.i dont need to worry about intermingling of different fluids:)

One last question, and it may be a difficult one.
How do I go about changing these fluids. I think I may have used the wrong one :D

Would it be as simple as rerouting the return line into a bucket and turn the car on while feeding new fluid?

you can definately do it that way.you could also use a turkey baster or some other suction device to remove fluid from the reservoir.what did you put in?
