Installing E500 Differential on 600SEL

I'm thinking of installing an E500 differential on my 600SEL 1992.
Do you think this will increase the performance without having any future troubles? Actually I'm trying to make my 600SEL to run as a bullet. Any further suggestions are appreciated :)

well the ratio in the 500e diff is 2.87 so yes it will be a big percentage change but make sure you buy a gas station as you will be it's main customer.

WOW. It is a good news that it will improve the performance, but does it really make that difference in gas consuming? I'm getting 80KM per 20 liter (11.3MPG) mixed (city/highway) + AC is on. Another question: will the E500 differential last for a long time? Thanks a lot for your information. :)

david s poole, Will it be that big difference in gas consuming? and will the E500 diff. last for a long time?

My 500Es dif is OE at 150K miles and I have been known to track and auto-x the car a few times a year. ;)

I don't baby the car by any means and still get a combined town/highway mpg of between 13-16 in the 8 cylinder... don't use A/C much tho. Can't imagine it making your mpg any worse than it already is.

The difs seem to be solid, have not heard of anyone with a E500E really needing to replace a worn out one. In fact they last long time in the cars with over 400hp too(factory E60s, RennTechs 6 liters, etc).

So, SL600 dif will work more appropiate for your car maybe, not as sporty as 500E? How often and quick do you need to get up to 155 mph?

unless you run the diff without oil it is very strong and should last 500000 mls.it is almost 30% better ratio[for accel] so at say 100mph constant speed i would expect about 20% more fuel usage from a 12 cyl engine.

Thanks Jim's500E,

I need the top performance to race a Ferrari.

Thank you david s poole for your reply :)

Do you recommend Performance chip on ebay?

Shall I buy and install Performance Chip?

For your vintage MB?...I would say pass on that (or any) chip. :)
