Question on rear seat room in a w124

I currently have a 190e that has been a great car. We now have five with one kid in a baby seat and the 190e is just too cramped to accommodate the family on anything more than a short trip.

I've tried searching, but really haven't found any good info on how much more room there is in the w124 chassis cars than my little 190e.

Personally I'd love to have a 560sel, but I don't think I could deal with the cost of keeping it filled up these days.

Anyone out there have some real world experience using a 300e as a daily driver family car?

Thanks,
Dean

We drove the 300E (now for sale) all the time with 2 full car seats back there (2 adults, 2 kids). I say full car seats because it's not just those booster types. On occasion there was still room for an adult to squeeze in the middle between them. So for your purposes, with only one car seat back there, I think a 300E would be just fine. Aside from about 4 or 5 inches more leg room, there is also about 2 to 3 inches more room from side to side, possibly more. I recommend that you test drive one just to be sure, but I wouldn't think you'd have any problem.

Thanks for the info.

Now I just need to convince my wife to check one out. She's pretty attached to her 190.

We drive a W123 but the interior space is almost identical (if anything, the advantage is on the W123 side). I have had 2 car seats in there for some years and sometimes three. The only thing you need to consider is that the W124 (and the W201 and W123) of course only has a lap belt in the middle and will not support three kids in boosters or, for that matter, three persons in the back seat. Unless, of course, you think lap belts are the way to go.

The W124 is certainly a lot roomier than the W201. I know, I drove both. :-)

Best regards,

Eric

My 124 and my 210 are/were only "emergency" transport for my 3 kids. The one in the middle always gets short shrift, which won't hold up for much more than an hour. BTW, sticking 3 kids in a W201 backseat probably qualifies as child abuse in the US.
My recommendation is a minivan (preferably used) for the wife and kids, and you drive the MB.

Yes, we also have a minivan, but we still take the car(s) frequently because, well, the minivan is a MINIVAN.
