God help me.. Heres the problem,, Car has been sitting for a while.. replaced whole fuel system.. car starts , runs for a second or five then dies.. i changed the fuel pump relay, now it is blowing the fuel pump fuse... What should i do next ?? i need to get this car running.. im disabled and it is my only car.. if theres a mechanic in or close to Orange County Ca, i would be greatly appreciative.. If you by-pass the fuel pump relay, will the engine stay running?

If not then check fuel pressure, must be 75-80 psi.

I believe M. B. Doc once said that if you're blowing that fuse, your fuel pump is pulling too much current and needs to be replaced.

I may stand corrected.

Below is a quote from an earlier post made by Steve Brotherton:

"The easiest way to do what you desire is to pull the relay, construct a jumper with a fuse inline and jump the relay socket between term 30 and term 87."

This is how you bypass the fuel pump relay(FPR).

This WEB site has a section called BuyParts. Go look up the FPR for your car. Should be a photo of it there and I believe in your case it's located behind the battery. If you jumper it and the car continues to run, the FPR is faulty.

You're lucky if this is the case as the stand-alone FPR is not that expensive. The one's that are integrated into a MAS controller(1990-1991) cost around $500. Yours will be much less.
