I am aware that every Mercedes is CFC free.
I was recently reading in my 1995 C-class that "as with every 1995 Mercedes-Benz, no CFCs are used in the air conditioning system or anywhere throughout the cabin."

Now, I am aware that CFCs are Cloro Fluoro Carbons. And this is a form of pollution or something of the nature(?).
But how and why would CFCs ever be used in a car, and what is the purpose?

(I think you, John E will be able to help me.)
