92 300e 2.6 no idle after head gasket R+R

I'm going to try to include everything doen, so there is little confusion. Car is a 92 300e with the 2.6 M103. Bought it with the telltale head gasket leak, oil in coolant, but it was running, just overheating. I learned enough from this site and others to delve into the project, but in the process busted part of the timing chain guide rail, so lower timing cover had to come off also. New parts include :Valve guides and seals when head was checked and machined, new headgasket, new timing chain, new head bolts, new chain guide rails, new crankshaft and camshaft seals, new belt tensioner, new belt, new plugs, new wires, new dist cap, new ignition rotor. Upon reassembly I timed it correctly according to instructions I found on this site.
Anyways, car starts if you apply throttle while starting, runs as long as you continue applying throttle, dies instantly when you let off the throttle. Sounds like a timing issue to me. I also noticed a small oil leak, but it could be vc gasket, not sure yet, as it hasn't run but for very short time bursts. I have read about other idling issues, but as it ran and idled before, I would think its something I tampered with, such as timing. Oh, and I left the intake and exhaust manifolds in place upon head removal, so there was minimal disturbance to them. Any ideas?
