replacing 420 sel engine

Is it possible to replace a 420 sel engine without pulling the tranny too?

You will get more response in the Tech help section. Matter of fact,,, I'll just move it there.

yes it's possible but a lot easier to pull engine and tranny at same time.save several hours by changing tranny over while out of car.

Thanks Dave, can the exhaust manifolds stay on the block or do i have to take them off in the bay?should i take the alternator , power steering and AC off the front of the engine? i am buying a used engine to replace the one in the car, timing chain broke in the old motor. I have a great hydrolic crane with an electric penant for picking the motor, so thats not a problem.I just never worked on a mercedes before.

I'd leave the manifolds on the block, just disconnect from the one pipe on the pass side..

All the accesories can stay on as well..they are a lot easier to get off once outside the car.

Hopefully you have the service CD's..they are good to have as reference material.
