ABS light comes on when Car’s in Drive…HELP!

Hey guys, I’m having a new problem with my 94 C220. When I start my car up, everything seems to be fine, as soon as I put my car into Drive and start driving, the ABS light comes on and stays on. When I let go of the gas and start slowing down, the ABS light goes away. Also, when the ABS light comes on, it causes my stereo to turn off and my interior odometer cluster and climate control night time light illumination also turns off. So when I’m driving around and start to slow down and the ABS light turns off and all of these things including the stereo power back up like everything’s fine, as soon as I give the car gas, everything turns off again. This is such a strange problem. Has anyone had this problem before and what are the common things that could cause this? Please help me out guys,

The infamous OVP - over voltage protection relay. A quick and easy fix.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I just changed my OVP on this car about 4 weeks ago.

Check the fuse on top of OVP and give the Battery an over-night charge....

Hey Arthur, just checked the fuse, its good, but to be safe I still swapped a brand new one in. Solved no probs :-(. I'll get the battery tested and see if it needs charging.

My recommend is to just charge the battery, regardless of testings. etc.
The reason for this is I suspect you have a low voltage condition and I want to take bat. out of the equation..just slow charge it over-night..
..or, go get it done if you do not feel uncomfortable with charging it yourself.
While you are there , tell them of you ASR condition.

Hey Arthur and everyone else...

I went to an indy mechanic down the street from my house in hope of getting him to charge my battery. When I showed him all the things my car was doing he was quite shocked, and put his battery testing machine to my car. My car was pumping out 17.2 Volts from the alternator, which I was told is unsafe for my car as the max should be around 13.5 volts. He told me it might be my alternator that's over charging and forcing the car to go into a safety mode by having the stereo and interior cluster lights stop functioning. He told me not to drive the car to prevent the car's computer from getting screwed up, and told me to take it to Mercedes and get it fixed.

After this diagnosis by an indy mech, does anyone have a rough idea and what's causing my problem?

I would guess that means the regulator is bad.

Does it matter what brand the Alternator is? So far I priced out Voltage Regulator's locally here. Which one should I go with?

I called mercedes benz in Surrey BC today regarding a Voltage Regulator. I was told the cost would be $124.00 for this part!!! What a RIP OFF!

So I went to Lordco and purchased a Wilson Brand Voltage Regulator for $16 and went to an indy mechanic. He ripped out the Alternator and did the part swap and he was happy with $50 bucks for his effort. The car is running great now! the battery charge before was 17 volts, now it rests around 13.5 and everything is functioning again. The car's idelin properly again, ABS light is no longer on and all electrical components work again. So the problem has been solved!!!
