300E Engine Swap
 

Circumstance is such that I have available a nice 89 300E 3.0 with a bad engine (head off, wet, rusted stuck) and a good 87 190E 2.6. Anyone see a problem in making a 300E 2.6?

Are you even sure your 89 300E engine is not already a 2.6? Post the VIN numbers for both and we can check through the Russian MB Club Web page.

i did the reverse of this swap back in 1990 with complete success.

don't you have to do the tranny with engine?

300E swap
 

Yes, the donor 190E 2.6, WDBDA29D9KF560808, was a runner and donated sheet metal to another 190E. I plan to install the 2.6 and trans together. The receiver 300E with the locked engine presents the problems of what do you do to separate a trans from a locked motor. Anyway, I feel the locked motor and trans should pull out OK. Unfortunately, I do not know the rest of the story with the 300E and will find out the hard way. Fortunately, it is absolutely beautiful.
