Euro-model tech question

I have a 1980 380 SL Euro.I know there are a lot of real smart techs here,so here goes...Is there a model ID number stamped on the transmission.? If so Where is it.? I just did some extewnsive fuel work on it,and when I took it out for a ride,at about 20mph there is a loud knocking sound coming from the transmission,or torque converter??.It was sitting for about three years, but had no trouble before it sat.It has a 6 bolt transmission pan..The fluid in the transmission was very clean, and the filter was clean also.Any help would be greatly appreciated..Thanks...

right side of trans pan right above the pan gasket, the number you need starts with 722.3 .

Thank You.. I wouldn't have found it myself.Very obscure place and very hard to see..Thanks again for the information.I'm now in the process of removing it to rebuild it...

Does that model have rubber flex disks conecting the driveshaft to the trans and the diff like most others do?

Yes they are rubber and about to be changed.(113k miles) From working on it,and researching it,it seems that it is a mixture of 1980 450sl(Some engine parts) and 1981 380sl.You just have to physically verify what a part looks like before you order it.

Center drive shaft support.....and/or.....broken rear trans mount......and/or......flex discs bad.

Finally fixed,but not done..

Well,I pulled the transmission, benched it and rebuilt it and reinstalled it.Used an overhaul kit and shift correction kit from Bulkpart transmissions in Texas, along with a repair manual from them,a modulator and 2 brake bands( B1&B2) from ********az,along with a set of flex discs and a center support bearing, she now purrs like a kitten.Just a shade over $850.00 for parts and a little loving hands from my wife and I(Yeah she helps, too) and the baby drives almost like new.Just have to overhaul the brakes next. It's fun to resurect a sweet little baby, that was almost sent to the scrap yard.Paid $3500.00 for her,(the car,not my wife)Has 113k miles and the hard top had never come off.Previous owner did not know there was a pretty new blue soft top underneath.. Keep you posted on the rest of the resurection, and I'll post some pictures soon..
