Head Gasket

89 300TE 135000miles, I have a slight oil leak from the passenger side rear of block looks like its time for a new head gasket, while I am in there any suggestions for what else should be replaced???
Thanks, kchemers@hotmail.com

If the leak is slight, they will run a long time that way. If you were closer to 200k a valve job would be in order too, and unless the leak was a lot more than slight, if it were me, I would wait.

Depends...I am guessing this is an M103 vs. an M104? Typical head gasket failure on an M103 will also breach the cooling system when it can't go any longer...so oil in the coolant tank is the first symptom to look for, not just the seepage around the head. High operating temps would surely follow.

M104s usually just leak profusely. Mine was leaving a quart on the ground everywhere it was parked...a ruptured heater hose actually prompted the work though.

Can't comment on what to replace on the M103, except I agree with head reconditioning involving valve stem guides and seals. Good time to replace seals and gaskets in general on parts that are dismantled during disassembly.

My mechanic is talking $1200 including valve job and milling the head plus parts, is this a good price??????
